Once you look past the childish "evil mega corporate's killing competition" view of the whole situation, their recommendation actually makes sense because MS Edge integrates pretty damn well with other Microsoft products (mainly Office) and this is not a well known fact among regular users. Lightly suggesting a potentially better and an in-house browsing solution for users to try out makes sense to me. I'm surprised that people even suggested using a Mac over this in other comments... yeah, use a Mac because Apple never pushes their own products and they're totally reliable in terms of cross-platform compatibility and tech inclusion.

but I seem to remember that we frown upon some country fighting some other country over that other country's territory, unless there's been an attack in the opposite direction beforehand.

Well, the situation is more complicated than what you're suggesting. In a nutshell, here's the sequence of events that led Turkey to this point:

  1. 1. Turkey accepted millions of refugees that flew from Syria due to a violent regime that caused hundreds of deaths.
  2. 2. Seeing that there were more and more refugees seeking a safe haven in their country, Turkey requested for help from other countries and international organizations in order to combat this humanitarian crisis.
  3. 3. After getting little-to-no help from others, Turkey followed up by requesting help in taking military action against the violent regime so that refugees could return to their homes.
  4. 4. Again, no help was provided. This time, Turkey began to assist the Free Syrian Army against the violent regime, which resulted in the Turkish occupation of northern Syria (since August 2016).

I urge you to do your own research (don't even accept my comment as it is) before making any definitive statement about the socio-political and militarian status in the middle-east. The majority of media consumers seem to shape their opinions based on click-baity titles and non-reliable sources of information that tells the story only from one side. I'm not saying you're one of those people, I'm just saying, please don't be one.
