What's so different about this Samsung compared to the range of Archos Android devices like the 43it (I don't care about Android myself so at a guess there are plenty of other devices out there)? Is the "virtually unchallenged" moniker in any way warranted?

I hate to be a troll, but this comment will inevitably be just that...

The reason why is:

Because Archos will forever be the Tech world's underdog

Because I have never seen Archos actually try and market a device (just their fan base)

Because Samsung's marketing department is undoubtedly superior.

If no one ever heard of it, no one will buy it. I constantly keep tabs on gadget/tech news and releases and I have never heard of this device. And trust me, I have been looking out for a device like this for a long time now. How would you expect the general public to ever find out. I've never used an Archos product myself, so I can't say anything either way. They could be some of the most amazing gadgets ever (and many have claimed they are). But they remain virtually unknown.

Personally, I don't want just a music player. I would like something like the iPod Touch that is not locked down to Apple's ecosystem. So why not just get an Android phone? I want the capabilities of a device like that but lack the funds or the need to be constantly connected (i.e. I'm broke and I can't afford a data plan). Buying an Android phone unlocked is very expensive and all contracts I've seen require you to sign up for data if the company is to subsidize the phone. A device like this will (ideally) be competitively priced.

What good is your old phone without a contract?

The cell providers make you sign the same contract whether you buy a phone or not. Wouldn't they have an interest in keeping you using the same phone for longer? I don't understand why more carriers don't sell more open phones

You don't have to renew your contract to continue your service. That's a common misconception. Most carriers will continue to give you service once the contract is up. That's why they offer to upgrade your phone every time your contract is nearing an end, because that becomes an incentive for you to sign into a new contract.

The thing is... they're not a government. They're not a democracy, or even a monarchy (though they've been compared to one a lot). They're not even a monopoly! They're a private company. It's their hardware, OS, and platform. If they reach monopoly status, then they should be looked into by the government for a lot of their practices. In the meanwhile, if you don't like how they run things you can always go somewhere else. Whether it is Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Symbian/Maemo, or the Palm Pre. There are options. You're not locked down.

I think we should just let Apple run their business. It's not like you can't pull up the documents on your web browser either. If they start restricting content there, then there's something to worry about! Meanwhile, let them control the user experience as much as they want. It seems to be working seeing as tons of people swear by their iOS devices!

I'd like to add that I'm not an Apple fanboy. I don't currently own any Apple devices. I do use iTunes sometimes to help manage my library and I once owned an iPod Nano for a period of four months and then I got something that I liked better.

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic, but using that logic so does paper. If this could save the page you wrote so you can bring it back up later, it would make a make a very useful tool for taking notes in class.

Because of it's limitations, I would not call this tablet practical. For a lot less money, I could just buy myself a small white board that would serve the same purpose.

I understand the U.S. government's concern over gambling and the devastating effect it can have on many people's lives, however, the government is not our mommy or daddy. It just needs to mind its own business and let the people and their local communities deal with the problem. That is what society is for. The federal government, however, needs to learn to let people live their lives and make their own mistakes. If people ruin their own lives, they need to deal with it like the adults that they are.

As long as you have internet access, SuperGenPass is a great option. It's a little bookmarklet where you type a master password, it will account for the domain you're currently on, and then generate a random password based on both. So, as long as you provide it with the same master password for the same website, it will always generate the same password. And as long as you have access to the internet you can always use it (when you're on the go, try SuperGenPass.com/mobile). I actually use it outside of the web as well. I will just use the name of the application as the domain name.

I have yet to see a DVD player that doesn't pause when going between layers. Just a fault in the technology itself. I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 still did this with the dual layer DVDs that you own.

No, the OEM picks the browser. Your PC will definitely come with a browser. It just won't be Microsoft choosing which one.

While I agree with a lot of what you said... remember that not everybody gets their copy of Windows with a new computer. Some people buy a retail copy of Windows of the shelf to install it in their existing computers, while others (like I have in the past) buy OEM copies of the OS from online vendors.

In which case, you will have an OS shipping without a browser, which is pretty ridiculous.

In anger, the lover shoots Nina and flees. Hans has no idea who he was, and Nina dies sadly in his arms. The only way he can avoid blame for the murder (having just legally purchased the gun) is to bury Nina himself. In the end, Hans feels responsible for her death, having driven her away from him due to his obsession with work, and of course, the foolish decision to buy the guy. He sees only too late that he should forgiven her for such a minor human flaw, and if he had, then he would still be with her.

That's quite the soap opera there! While not entirely impossible, it is quite a stretch. To me it's more likely that he probably killed her. Although, it is true that it makes absolutely no sense that he claims to be innocent while also claiming to know where her body is...
