Thanks for posting about Gemini, but this is really old news. It was shipped to first backers to year ago and I received mine something like 8 months ago.

It's the best phone currently available for my use. Camera is terrible and there are some HW quality issues but nothing beats a proper keyboard. I've backed Cosmo Communicator which should fix the issues.

I consider it more like successor for Nokia Communicators and N900 as it's a phone. All modern phones have PDA functionality.

Check out Matrix, it does the same as Telegram but is FOSS and distributed also on server side. Telegram is closed and owned by a Russian company. Matrix also supports bridging TG channels to Matrix side quite easily so existing communities can be merged. Telegram is not as evil as WhatsApp or others, but Matrix goes all the way. I closed my telegram clients a couple months ago and haven't looked back since.

Skrolli, a Finnish tech magazine made by hobbyists for hobbyists. The mainstream tech magazines either died or started reviewing stuff like TV's and electric shavers so hobbyist scene had to start a new magazine. It has been received really well after 5 issues in over one year. Many were skeptical that a new print magazine would make any sense but they have been proven wrong.

I share the hate to web forum UI's by many posters. That's why i wrote Siilihai web forum reader. IMO a good forum software should separate the data from UI properly and give a good API to access the underlying data. I really hope Discourse will add a API or use one of the existing ones, TapaTalk being the most popular.

Submission + - Good, relevant usability book?

osman84 writes: "I've been developing web/mobile apps for some time, and have managed to build up some decent experience about usability. However, as I'm growing a team of developers now, I've noticed that most of the young ones have a very poor sense of usability. Unfortunately, since I was never really taught usability as science, I'm having trouble teaching them to develop usable apps.

Are there any good books that make a good read for general usability guidelines for web/mobile apps? I have a couple from my college days, but I'd like something more recent, written in the era of mobile apps, etc.

Thanks!"

Submission + - Welcome Back Kernel.org (kernel.org)

Hummdis writes: "After more than a month of being offline due to a security breach at Kernel.org, they're back!

While they were down, they took the time to "rearchitect" the site for developers and users.

"As noted previously, kernel.org suffered a security breach. Because of this, we have taken the time to rearchitect the site in order to improve our systems for developers and users of kernel.org. To this end, we would like all developers who previously had access to kernel.org who wish to continue to use it to host their git and static content, to follow the instructions here.
Right now, www.kernel.org and git.kernel.org have been brought back online. All developer git trees have been removed from git.kernel.org and will be added back as the relevant developers regain access to the system.
Thanks to all for your patience and understanding during our outage and please bear with us as we bring up the different kernel.org systems over the next few weeks. We will be writing up a report on the incident in the future.""

Submission + - Autism Propels Software Testers Over Socialites (smartertechnology.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Autism is not a mental illness, but a condition that favors solitary detail-oriented work styles over the socialite mania sweeping the Internet user base. Now companies in the U.S., Japan and Europe are hiring autistic programmers to do tedious software testing and debugging. There indeed is a place, for every-thing (and -one) under the sun :)

Facebook has confirmed this is indeed a bug, but says that it is limited in scope and that it will be fixed today. Talk about damage control.
