Yeah, I was wondering about this also.
The parents of a friend of mine live in Carroll Gardens (in a brownstone, natch). However, there's no /. connection there.
Also, 1 of my earliest memories is of waiting out the '77 blackout by sitting out on the steps of our brownstone on Lafayette (not Carrol Gardens, is maybe Fort Greene?) watching neighbors walking home with stuff which didn't previously belong to them and waving. I was 3 so I didn't get any beer, but the rest of the commune was sure having a good time. Very festive.
