Been using RSS/Atom for well over a decade. It is an excellent tool to pull a lot of info to a single location that I can read and control at my convenience. It is an Internet standard that allows me to access news and special interest topics directly. I'd far rather use RSS/Atom than a proprietary service (Google, Facebook, Yahoo, etc) that then monitor, filter/censor, and monetize my reading. And yes, it is how I read Slashdot.

I just read the upgrade instructions. Looks like LM20.1 is the first step to merge those directories. They make it an optional step to merge the directories and it is the default config for new installations. This has already been done in Solaris and Fedora, so it shouldn't be much of a risk at this point.

They aren't killing off RSS/Atom, just a part of their code that they don't want to maintain and has lesser usage. No big deal. There are multiple plugins and many non-Mozilla solutions. I use the Brief plugin and it works well for me.

Agreed. I have many e-mail addresses and Virtual Identity is an excellent tool for handling them all from a single account.
