My old iPod has my music, that I haven't added to in over a year. My iPad has all my recent photos as well as a few must have docs and manuals. My iPhone has a weird mix of the above. My Acer netbook has older copies of docs, digital receipts and whatnot. My ancient iBook has old photos from when my 2MP Canon point n shoot seemed nice. My wife has everything on her laptop. Everything is on a external 750GB hdd. All the older stuff, 8-15 years old, is on a combo of CD or DVD backups. I really need to geek out and get it all in 3 places and stop wondering and worrying. As I type that list my frown gets deeper.

Why can't we just have physically rotating monitor? My iPad does it just fine. That way we could use what we need when we need it.

Well I guess they could spend that year in their parents basement trolling /. and reconfiguring comments to sound witty and insightful. That being said I don't see where I said that anything was forced. I'm a college dropout myself. Nowadays I work in a trade using my hands and my brain to fix stuff. 18 year old sheltered American kids generally don't have the foggiest idea of what the real world is like or have the information available to them to make a decision that will set them on their way for the rest of their life. That used to be the point of high school. Now it's the point of college.... Oh wait that's not it. Experience the world by living in it. Even if its just a taste for a year so you realize you should work your ass off in college and be able to do what you want to do instead of getting that degree in fine arts because the hot girl in front of you picked that. Of course given the current jobless or underemployment rates of recent college grads, this discussion doesn't hold water.

I think one year of public service, regardless of type would be beneficial to kids before they go to college. Plus it could be a internship program for future medical students (working in a senior home for example) or any other field (work in a factory learning about engineering). Get a real world taste so people can understand better why the education is needed.
