I agree with the general reaction I am reading.. and at the same time an ambitious group of people could see this as an opportunity to provide an installation and maintenance service to the neighborhoods and other associations. If it became popular and lucrative then surely the ISPs would start offering the same deal to keep their extorti.. er um, "business model" alive. Soon after the ISPs and telco's and cable co's and other monop.. er um, "companies" jump on board, we'll be right back to square one because the fiber lines will be driven up to at least $300 a month.

But if you do happen to make it to my comment, I have a potential solution for you. If you need to extend the framework to meet the new requirements, look into AOP. It will allow you to specify behavior and attach interactive code to anywhere in the call graph. A good example is caching. Say you framework didn't support it, but now they want it... you can point-cut the object hydration calls and (quickly) build a caching system and subvert the original call, or continue the original call flow, all under your precise control.

If he does ONLY one thing, my hope is that it will be changing the system such that a group of greedy political criminals (or anyone for that matter) will no longer be able to change the fundamentals our country is based on.. i.e. the wiretaps, patriot act, etc, essentially restoring the checks and balances that were suppose to be immutable.

McAfee Artemis Claims Protection Online, On-the-Fly 107
Seems like McAfee has created a new Internet-based service to provide active protection on the fly when a PC gets hit by malicious computer code. "[Artemis] is a lot faster than traditional methodologies and it closes the gap between when a piece of malware is written, discovered, analyzed and protected against ... Artemis is available at no charge as part of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise or McAfee Total Protection Service for small and medium-sized businesses. Artemis is also available for McAfee's consumer products, where the functionality is called Active Protection."

Discussed earlier this year, TransferJet promises to allow rapid data transfer between devices in close proximity. "The group of companies involved in the development of TransferJet has been tagged the 'TransferJet Consortium' and includes many industry giants such as Sony, Canon, Kodak, Nikon, Pioneer, Toshiba, Samsung and many others. The companies intend to market a broad array of products and services incorporating TransferJet technology with the intention of increasing its usage through the consumer electronics industry. With this new technology, there will be no need for access points or complex data transfer setups. By touching the two devices together, intuitive operation will kick in and the files will be transferred automatically."

After reviewing findings from multiple disciplines, he 'realized that only 68 molecular building blocks are used to construct these four fundamental components of cells: the nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), proteins, glycans and lipids,' and he said that 'these 68 building blocks provide the structural basis for the molecular choreography that constitutes the entire life of a cell.'"
World's First "Unclonable" RFID Chip 320
An anonymous reader writes to tell us that a new RFID chip from Verayo claims to be unclonable through the use of the new Physical Unclonable Functions (PUF), sort of an electronic DNA for silicon chips. "Basic passive RFID chips can be easily cloned by copying the data residing on one chip to another. Verayo's PUF-based RFID chips cannot be cloned, and provide a very strong and robust authentication mechanism. No other chip or device can be disguised as the original chip, even if the data is copied from one Verayo RFID chip to another."
