I rarely use facebook anymore (maybe 2-4 times a month, just to read family updates) but last week I went there and immediately got a popup asking if I would be part of the study. Since I rarely use it anyway I figured it wouldn't hurt, so I signed up.

For what it's worth I'm sure facebook can deduce that I'm anti-Trump from my profile. I'm guessing the point of the study is to try to demonstrate the facebook doesn't have a political bias, so they're probably picking an equal number of "reliable voters" from both sides so they can show that using facebook (or not) doesn't affect politics.

It's very useful for games. Let's say you've made an online game, and you want settings for things like volume, key controls, etc. Sure, you could have the server remember those things and send them up to the flash player each time. But what if you have a different keyboard at home and want a different key layout? What if you want the volume off at work, but on at home? These are perfect applications for client-side flash variables.

Journal Journal: Zfone beta goes live (FIRST POST!!!)

Zfone beta launch The story is currently being submitted to slashdot proper by PRZ. Why should I, a slashdot pariah, care?
  1. I wrote the app that processes the registrations and downloads - my very first Ruby on Rails app going live.
  2. Zfone is cool.
  3. it amuses me to post something slashdotty before it shows up on slashdot.

Ken Krawchuk says his numbers went up, not down. And I'm sure he thinks getting into the debates was a breakthrough for his campaign too.

Being included in the debates would be a huge victory for Libertarians. The presidential debates have a much bigger audience than governitorial debates.

It would be a breakthrough because we're not there now. When Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus, that may not have seemed like a big deal to people who had rode in the front of the bus regularly for years or who had seen African Americans ride in the front of the bus up north, but it was a very big deal to people previously not given that opportunity.
