I was in 4th grade as well. I saw it live, though not from up close. I live in Florida, and we had all been following the launch pretty closely. I think one of our teachers had applied for the position, but I really don't know how far in the selection process he got. I went to a small private school and our teacher took us outside to see if we could get a glimpse of the shuttle climbing. I don't remember the actual explosion, but I remember the smoke and trails of debris vividly.
