Comment Re: Better ways to prevent car theft/recovery (Score 2) 166

Except that if any other apple device goes near the airtag it will update it's location to the cloud so you only need the thief's friend/girlfriend/passer by to have an iPhone and bam, you have the updated location. Tile did this first naturally but obviously there are far fewer phones with the tile app than there are iPhones on recent versions.

Comment And these companies wonder why piracy is massive! (Score 5, Informative) 139

I don't understand how these companies don't realise that they are directly responsible for encouraging the piracy that they complain so bitterly about. To get all the shows you want to watch you might have to subscribe to 3 or 4 different streaming services and honestly, how many average consumers are going to do that?

Comment There is no market for this (Score 1) 67

I'm just not seeing the market for this. If you're a proper gamer then you have a console or a gaming PC, why would you want to use this? If you're a casual gamer then the types of games you likely play work on your phone, they don't need a massive gaming rig in the cloud. I'm somewhere between casual and hardcore and I have a reasonable library on steam which, using parsec (https://parsecgaming.com/) I can play on any pc anywhere, don't need a chromecast and a special controller, just my laptop or work computer!

Comment This accident has nothing to do with summon (Score 1) 131

This is so obviously fake. One look at the picture on twitter tells all you need to know. Firstly the dent just isn't the right shape or in the right place. Even if we ignore that, have you seen how slowly the car moves when in summon mode? No way on earth that you could create a dent that big when going that slowly.

Pretty sure that what happened was that the guy had a regular run of the mill accident that was his fault, heard about the rollout of this new feature and saw it as a way to not have to pay for the damage.

Well I can verify that it has an always on display as i've been wearing one on my wrist for a month now and it's definitely always on! I believe it's a transflective display which relies on the light shining on it to allow it to be visible (when the backlight is off). It's not the highest resolution which probably also saves on power.

Comment Re: the soundbar reason is bs.. (Score 1) 299

I certainly can't detect any latency or compression on my steam link and that's on 100mb cabling. Replace with gigabit and surely one tried and tested cable is better than a load of usb extenders right? Sure I know that steam link isn't a total desktop solution but there are plenty of KVM solutions out there and much discussion on the latency concerns (it appears that there are none) https://www.reddit.com/r/gamin...

Not sure what software issues you are referring to but H264/H265 encoding is done in hardware on modern graphics cards and with a dedicated kvm it doesn't matter anyway.

I'm pretty certain you can get cat6 cable shielded enough to not be affected by power cables!
