Comment Re:Wake Me Up When Search Works in File Explorer (Score 1) 46

How many times has search in File Explorer not found a file you know is present? How many times has it found a file that doesn't contain any of the search terms? How many times has it searched for hours? Microsoft has never managed to get search to work. For God's sake - f-in Mac OS Finder is able to reliably search and is fast.Command line find with grep is faster on Linux and Mac than anything in Windows except maybe find and grep in GitBash.

Microsoft is trying to be 'secure' by not using the MFT and instead creating its own 'best guess' based on users 'consent' locations.

"Everything" (my choice of MFT search), will be instant for 99% of your search needs as it just uses the MFT, and just shows *everything*I which i dunno, just works: https://superuser.com/question...

Comment its a tangible, analogue 'record' of sound. (Score 1) 89

You buy vinyl to get a 'record' of a song that you love and want to keep. It will stay for as long as it keeps meaning something to you.

No other media replaces it. The CD gets scratched and its useless. There's no sound on that foil layer, just 1's and zeros.

Vinyl, even warped, dusty, worn out, (ok maybe not melted) will still reproduce a recognisable song of the original version you remembered. Its there in the vinyl, you can see and feel the grooves. You can hear the needle begin its journey from outer to inner with nothing but wires to a speaker (you don't even need an amp or power if you have the right speaker coils and good hearing!)

Yes it will be a lesser fidelity than digital, and even worse over time, but most record lovers/collectors love that added warm crackly charm of the years its seen pass enhancing its value to the owner. Its still this record, not only of the original song, but the years you have owned it + sprinkle of nostalgic organic decay of the world around you stuck in its grooves. And you get to hear it, feel it, read it, remember it for as long as you want to. Its a record.
