Journal cerenyx's Journal: Metamoderation Is A Painful Thing 2

It is disturbing how my efforts at taking part in the metamoderation system these days involves me reviewing multiple 'bad' moderations, presumably made by moderators without a modicum of cow sense.

Insightful articles worded slightly antagonistically, or otherwise strongly worded for emphasis, or expressing opinions counter to the /. mainstream opinion, are marked as 'Troll' or 'Flamebait'. Like, WTF? Which idiots are doing this?

Even browsing comments at -1, I come across perfectly decent opinions marked as Flamebait because they are: too short, or too strongly worded. This place is starting to resemble a Jesuit monastery.

Metamoderation Is A Painful Thing

  • I dont know about you, but I dont have too much time reading slashdot.. Im sure others are in the same situation. So i obviously set up my /. settings to display only the 2 or 3 points and higher.

While I do this, I noticed over time that my comments are kinda ignored, even if I find them informative (example [slashdot.org]) , or somewhat funny/worth noticing [slashdot.org] Well, the whole situation is sad :/
    • The way the moderation system works, it seems as if posts that are too 'late' (read: much more than a few hours after the story has been posted) tend not to receive moderation at all.

It is already a flawed system to begin with -- a trait that is excusable in every human system -- but its flaws are compounded by a chronically problematic userbase.
