New Jersey Bars Sex Offenders From the Internet 435

eldavojohn writes "New Jersey just passed legislation making it illegal for sex offenders to use the internet. NJ congresswoman Linda D. Greenstein said, 'When Megan's Law was enacted, few could envision a day when a sex offender hiding behind a fake screen name would be a mouse-click away from new and unwitting victims. Sex offenders cannot be given an opportunity to abuse the anonymity the Internet can provide as a means of opening a door to countless new potential victims.' While they still can search for jobs, this is a major expansion over the prior legislation which barred them from social networking sites like facebook or myspace."

Journal Journal: Vista Failure Log

I'm mostly convinced that Vista is ME Part II. Back to school is over and M$ is not crowing about an uptick in use. Thanks to WGA, they should know all about how many people are using Vista, so their silence means Vista has gone nowhere. Because SP1 is not out before Christmas, Vista will miss yet another buying season. This leaves GNU/Linux and Apple as the only real upgrade choices XP users have.

Feed Engadget: Toshiba subpoenaed by US DOJ over flash memory business (engadget.com)

Just over a week after two Samsung execs were arrested for fraud in Thailand, another flash memory leader is facing a bit of legal heat. Reportedly, Toshiba "said it had been subpoenaed by the US Department of Justice about its flash memory business in the key US market," which comes just after SanDisk admitted that it had "received grand jury subpoenas indicating a government probe into possible price-fixing in the NAND flash memory industry." Notably, a Toshiba spokesman only clarified that the subpoena was directed at the firm's US semiconductor sales unit (Toshiba America Electronic Components), but we've got a sneaking suspicion this won't be the last we hear on the matter.

[Thanks, Omar]
