You are just missing the point that we are all professionals and geeks in here. We are not scared to workaround and google stackoverflow for hours to find a solution. This is just not the mass of users that want something that just run. And Linux on the desktop is just not there. Progress are really slow and Windows 10 is really a blast. WSL wont help Linux either.

DevOps is just putting a name on basic concepts that were existing before: I was doing Junit in 2001 (regression testing), doing continuous build and deployment using Apache ANT, automating server provisioning with puppet in 2006

I never say the windows app store is good but at least it is less horrible than the Ubuntu one: there are screenshots of the same size, app logo are standardized, reviews and ratings are up to date. The picture and layout is modern. You don't have 10 Videolan version, most outdated, abandoned where you need always to ask yourself if there is not a Trojan build in.

what does that bring to discuss if devops was not existing 20 years ago? I was doing CI/CD in 2001, or to deny and say windows has more flaws than gnome of kubuntu or mint or whatever. If you want to measure success, market share is an obvious metric. How damn can Linux increase its market share? Why people install Linux then a few weeks later run to buy or pirate windows 10? If you complains about windows updates being too frequent, try any Linux flavor again: you get nearly daily or every 2 days updates... Microsoft has found a clever way to kill Linux desktop, like it or not by adding Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) . Wenn completed it will remove the need to manually virtualize (on your own with vmware, virtual desktop, ....) Linux Desktop. And conveniently a new wave of developers will just use (Linux) terminal in windows. All Linux communities at the same time are divided on healthy but sterile discussion. Will it be a new wave of AI, AR features in gnome, kubuntu? I don't think so. Linux will stay forever at sub 2% desktop market share. I only see Russia, China saving Linux on the desktop.

EVERY single year I try to use the latest Ubuntu LTS/Desktop, after some weeks, not later than 2 months struggling with the desktop, I always go back to windows 10. Linux is just barely usable as a desktop for normal users, great for compiling blockchain projects but not for power users. And it is just SLOW, not as efficient as windows which is funny ;-) I remove desktop Linux because I use more time to fix my issues by googling at home in the evening than enjoying the trouble-free experience of Windows (I google already enough at work :-) I just want Linux to have more market share on the desktop, but it is not going to happen if we continue voting on the next wallpaper, new buttons instead of having more applications, a real appstore, and fewer discussions if flatpak is better than snaps, appImage, same for systemD/initD. Windows file explorer is just working better than any nautilus, konqueror, file commander dot. My Setup is NOT usual and may explain all my issues Dual 40'' 4k screen -> yeah 80'' inches of desktop, need that for multiple IDEA, Browser and terminals AMD 32 cores threadripper Geforce 1080 Ti with binary or nouveau driver Lot of you will say I'm just no competent but this is just not true: I'm a software engineer, DevOps for 20 years, run 12 WordPress blogs using Linux since 2000 on my dedicated root server, and won't use something else. I'm open-minded as well: I use macOS on the go and maintain multiple open source project. We just need to do what is required to get more market share, and more non-geek people using desktop Linux. I will document next time all my issues, but not before Ubuntu 20.10 comes out :-)
