Comment It's not just the vegetarians they will be missing (Score 2) 142

I don't think it's a very smart decision. I am vegetarian. Some of my friends are, many not. But whenever we go eat somewhere they take into consideration that some people don't want to eat meat. So any restaurant without vegetarian options is skipped. They are not loosing just the vegetarians this way, but the rest of the group as well. (Not to claim that MCDonalds is such an amazing restaurant, but I will join if people want to go there and I can eat something)

Yet another proof that google has deliberately removed the slogan: "don't be evil" I am not surprised by the other 2 evil empires. There is a climate emergency going on and they are discussing the price of the electricity... It is like when you are having a diner and a candle tumbles over to set the table cloth on fire. You don't start discussing that the price of the wine is too high to use it too extinguish the fire. You just take action.

Iâ(TM)m not arguing that in theory it is possible, just the fact that the TCO to make it work in practice is higher than any company is willing to invest in should be an indicator.

So if nobody is willing to invest, who build the >740 GW of wind power currently installed in the world??? Of course the financial returns are not as high as oil exploration, but the are good enough for a LOT of companies.

Comment The green-washing dream has to become reality. (Score 5, Informative) 175

So now Shell actually has to do what they have been promising. The green-washing dream has to become reality. That is, if Shell also looses the appeal they are going to make. Shell has been pretending to want to become greener for a long time, but it has never been convincing. A long time ago they used to own Shell Solar in Helmond (that was before 2000), but it didnt make enough money. They started selling green electricity from offshore wind, but stopped it seen after (2004) because it didnt make enough money. They participated in development of a solar farm at A59 in the Netherlands, but this year they've withdrawn from it this year, because it didnt make enough money. So the court ordering Shell to be less spoiled about the financial returns is a good thing.

Comment Intermittancy (Score 2) 441

So one turbines produces intermittent. Big f-ing deal. The correlation between windspeeds between to sides 100 km apart is below 0.5 (based on 10 min averages over a year). So lot's of turbines solve most of the problem. Then there are still moments that there is no wind anywhere. Yes we need to change the system to allow for that, but that is just evolution from a retarded polluting system to a more modern non-polluting system. So stupid how you find even engineers claiming how intermittancy is such a big problem. Engineers are there to solve those problems and we are going to. No reason what so ever to stick to the old polluting system.

Most commenters above consider farmers to be to simple to understand the bigger picture. It is worse.... Lot's of them are smart entrepreneurs in a business that is run in a way that pollutes the environment big time. Lot's and lot's of chemicals are being used. They have a business model that does not work with considering the environment. So they are skeptical about everything environmental. I know quiet a couple of farmers, most don't farm biological/ecological and they don't want to hear about it, don't want to know what is wrong with their work (and how it can damage them and their own families) and they don't even want to talk to any bio-farmer. So they are not going along with the climate change reasoning either. Just deny everything and don't change your life. That is the mindset. Now, the bio-farmers (who once where "normal" farmers) have a completely different mindset and do admit that how they used to farm was wrong (and how they realy realy didnt like bio-farmers). They will agree with climate change being a very very serious risk. As a farmer you choose side and stick to (the views) of the group you belong to.....

Comment Cars not better... the cover ups are better (Score 1) 672

In Europe we have the Consumer Affairs EU rapid alert system for all dangerous consumer products. Very interesting to do a search on car brands to see recalls and other problems. http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/dyna/rapex/rapex_archives_en.cfm I found it while having dangerous stuff happening with my Volvo V50 diesel spontaniously starting to accelerate on the high way. Searching for Volvo there learned me that Volvo definitely still has serious quality problems. I think cars haven't become that much better. The car companies have become that much better in covering up their problems.
