Comment Executive Punishment (Score 1) 227

I think the executives should go to prison, have their assets frozen, withdraw all their investments to cash (paying tax in the process and so they can't be generating passive income) and then be barred from having any kind of passive income streams, director/board level positions for the rest of their lives.

Text books will tell us that face to face communication is more effective due to non verbal communication such as body language. I've yet to see a code failure which can be explained with body language. Also, it's much easier to brown nose in the office, so that mustn't be something high on the list of requirements for those that work remotely.

Comment Exercise next? (Score 1) 144

Some people find exercise and going to the gym addictive, due to how it makes them feel, do you stop that too? Seriously though, friends of mine who didn't play games growing up and those that did have a clear difference in thought process. The question is, was this thought process derived via the introduction of gaming or a pre-existing mental state? Games have been addictive for 40 years, why is it different now?

I had some strange behaviour with Steam and the survey. I've owned three AMD GPUs in a row: Rx480, Vega 64 then 6800XT. None of those GPUs triggered a Steam survey, two were new system builds. A friend was having what they thought was a performance issue with a 2070 using something like a 2600 (can't remember the exact CPU) so I offered to test on my machine as I was running a 3700X. DDU, installed the new card, installed drivers, launch Steam and the survey triggers! Now, I believe this is purely co-incidence, or DDU could have been a trigger (though didn't happen when I DDU'ed again and put the 6800XT back in) but I would be interested to know what the criteria is for triggering a Steam Hardware Survey, I'm also on my second VR headset, neither of which will have been captured in the survey.

This is the reason I feel that Intel have been "slower" over a couple of generations, not that they were incapable of the engineering but being able to deliver a design that was fab-able in sufficient quantities to meet demand. Upgrading fabs whilst meeting existing demand must be a significant logistical and technological challenge.
