The issue is not the originator of the keyboard form it is the precedence of the symbology on it. The layout of the keyboard merely reflects the commonly used characters in the local language (hence the very 'wierd' french keyboards). Therefore as the (GBP) quite seriously pre-dates keyboards it has priority of the name 'pound sign'
