What if some of the fundamental constants (speed of light, gravitational constant--that sort of thing) change over time? We are, after all, looking into the past when we stare out into deep space. I know that assuming a uniform universe makes tenure more attainable, but still ... I keep thinking of Ptolemy and all those (unnecessary) epicycles. In the end, we didn't need 'em.

Now _that_ would be a cruise!
