As recent case involving Texas legislators fleeing the state to avoid a vote indicates, the process of redrawing political districts in the US has apparently become unbearably partisan. (Although I am sure partisanship has played a healthy role in such matters for a long time.) Perhaps the situation would be improved if districts were defined by an algorithm. The program would only need to be given the population distribution of the state and convenient geographical boundaries (roads, rivers...) with which to set the district borders.
