Comment Opening up (Score 1) 244

I'll probably catch all kinds of hell for this, but... Keeping businesses closed and staying at home will only work for so long. At some point we have to get people back to work and the economy moving. We can't rely on the government to take care of us. It is just not feasable in the long run. A vaccine will help. One thing that will happen (and has happened) is that when places do start opening up, there will be a spike in cases. It can't be avoided. The sooner we can get moving forward, the better. I have no problem with mandating masks in public and enforcing some restrictions to businesses (capacity wise) to maintain some sort of social distancing. Businesses have to be proactive in enforcing the mandates too. I have seen too many people walking around without masks in places where masks are currenty mandated. It comes down to the public, not the government to make these things happen.

As someone who has worked in the printing industry my entire life, I find it insane that it is still illegal to farm hemp. It grows quickly and can produce multiple yields per year. It produces more paper per acre than trees and is a more sustainable resource. It is also a good alternative to the cotton that is used in many specialty papers. Not to mention all of the other uses it has.

Lack of Manpower May Kill VLC For Mac 398

plasmacutter writes "The Video Lan dev team has recently come forward with a notice that the number of active developers for the project's MacOS X releases has dropped to zero, prompting a halt in the release schedule. There is now a disturbing possibility that support for Mac will be dropped as of 1.1.0. As the most versatile and user-friendly solution for bridging the video compatibility gap between OS X and windows, this will be a terrible loss for the Mac community. There is still hope, however, if the right volunteers come forward."
