Journal btlzu2's Journal: Maddening bug in iTunes/iPod 18

I just found the first thing that is driving me nuts with iTunes/iPod. I have been in the process of re-ripping CDs into AAC format that I currently have as MP3s to save space and to get that low-end back that MP3s stole from me. I did a bunch of CDs yesterday and they all have 5-10 seconds of the end of every song cut off. Holy shit that's annoying. This did not happen in the previous version of iTunes. The full song is there, it's just that when it gets to 5-10 seconds remaining on the song, it jumps to the next one. Ugh!

Has anyone else seen this? Workarounds? Thanks in advance....

Annoying! Sam? Fix it. :)

      • No, I don't use any of thos settings ever. I don't like soundcheck because, to me, it seems like it muffles loud songs and overdrives quiet songs.

I wish I could stop using Windows. :) Games.

        Thanks Sam.

          • I can get it to go away by (tediously and pissed-offously) manually setting the "End Time" to something shorter, saving it, then removing the end time and re-syncing the iPod. Now that's some goofy shit. I have about 300 songs to do that way. *whimper*
        • Yeah, I was going to mention the crossfade, because it defaults to on for about 6 seconds. Have you upgraded recently (or looked at it since you upgraded?)

I noticed that even after turning it off, it appears to start the next song a good second before the current one has finished, but it isn't the 6 second problem that you're having.

          • Thanks, but it's not crossfade and it happened in 4.6 and 4.7. I upgraded just now to 4.7.1. I remember having this problem back in 4.6, but not prior versions. Anyway, I found a lame way to fix it [slashdot.org]. Bah.
  • Although if anyone has a suggestion for dealing with "hidden tracks" tacked on after 15 minutes of silence following the last track, that'd be helpful.
  • are you saying apple did something wrong? that's simply not possible. or at least it's someone else's fault.

the inquisition will be arriving shortly.
    • They're not perfect; however, they're more perfect than most other companies [microsoft.com] which shall remain nameless.
      • that's almost a confession. the inquisitor assigned to your case will probably be leniant. cardinal fang! fetch the soft cushions.

i'm just amused when people try to paint their pet platform a rosier shade than reality. like people who claim macintoshes don't crash and don't have problems. not you though. those other people. :)
        • I'm am an enthusiastic kinda guy about stuff I like, but I'm not unrealistic. :) Remember, I don't even own a Mac!

Where I go wrong is music. Everyone should love The Stone Roses (obviously) because every song they did is dead perfect. So there's my blind zealotry for ya.
          • that hardly even qualifies as a vice, especially when you're right.

thought of you yesterday because i heard "creep" on the radio on my way to work. i have always liked that song.
  • Not me personally, but these people (Jan. 8 and onward) observed it only on iPods. I'd also like to note that one or two mentioned on a few songs the sound just cuts out though it appears to be playing. I've had that happen too. I know for sure of one mp3 that plays fine in Winamp but cuts out in the same place in iTunes. Another person also mentioned he believes that using Sound Check is related to the last digit of the year in id3 tags disappearing. I wrote an entry asking about this too. I don't be
