The decision to not include closed ear headphones was clearly deliberate presumably one of a number of principles that Apple adheres ostensibly to reduce isolation of the user in physical space. I am not advancing a personal opinion on the motivation or whether they achieved it, only I cannot imagine it was an oversight. I would say the quality is remarkable for an open design headphone, and I am quite content to use AirPods with it on a plane, as prescribed by Apple.

I have seen the future of media consumption and it is what Apple touts as immersive video, a novelty which I think is unique to this device right now. Worth mentioning then, perhaps, that even nuclear science and technology in the Soviet Union was subject to regulation and oversight of the IAEA, and that today, scrutiny and regulation subjected to the construction of a bridge that will carry thousands vastly exceeds that of a technology predicted as the very likely cause of human extinction on the planet.
