Submission + - Anonymous takes on a Mexican drug cartel (chron.com) 1

NarcoTraficante writes: After one of their members was kidnapped in Veracruz, Mexico by the Zetas drug cartel, Mexican Anonymous members have issued an ultimatum to the Zetas in a recently posted YouTube video (Spanish). The video demands release of the kidnapped member and threatens to publish information of cartel members and affiliates in Veracruz if the victim is not released by November 5. The Houston Chronicle article warns that there will be bloodshed if Anonymous publishes information on the Zeta's operations, either perpetrated by rival cartels or reprisal attacks by the Zetas themselves.

Submission + - $25 PC Prototype gets award at ARM TechCon (raspberrypi.org)

gbl08ma writes: "The Raspberry Pi project, which aims to create a $25 Linux box, won a award for the category "Best in Show for Hardware Design", at ARM TechCon, even though they haven't yet released any final product (the release will be sometime in late November).
The director of the Raspberry Pi foundation, Eben Upton, shown at the event, demonstrating the capabilities of one of the prototypes that have been built. From advanced graphics at 1080p HD resolution to simple web browsing and desktop productivity, the small boards with ARM-based processors and PoP SDRAM have proven to be very versatile, fast and durable.
The whole Raspberry Pi team and community are very happy for this prize and they all hope this results in big success for the project. Lets just wait for the final boards to be released."

Still waiting for better information, as it stands form this article the research is not only limited in scope and unreliable its almost criminal. Using what little information in the "black box" is a joke. It is coming form faulty sensors that possibly the cause of the problem tile they rule that out there is no way they can say this is not just another corporate white wash

Your limited view of Cali has you blindsided there is a shit load of agriculture and industry it has the 6th largest GDP of countries in the world and is a leader in exports of rice to Asia. You may not have any idea on where it is but its there in Bakersfield and the Central Valley and silicon valley got its nick for a reason along with Napa valley wine.

like we really need to raise taxes on people when there is over a 10% unemployment rate meaning the real rate is closer to 15-20 percent, and don't not forget more jobs are temp and part-time then full time so the underemployment rate is much higher. I am sure getting close to 50 range all together. When employers are posting jobs but not really hiring anyone. There is more jobs leaving the state then coming in to it because of how high the tax rate already is. Yes raise taxes run more jobs out of the state does that really make seances now?

Left 4 Dead SDK Beta Released 75

Valve has released a beta version of their authoring tools for Left 4 Dead. The tools will allow you to "create your own campaign maps, character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and music and load them into the game." The kit includes a level editor and command-line compiling utilities, as well as example maps, props, infected, and explosives. It also brings plugins for a 3D modeling program called SketchUp. Valve has updated their development wiki to go along with the release.
