New I/O Standard Bids To Replace Mini PCI Express 31

DeviceGuru writes "LinuxDevices reports that a group of companies today unveiled — and demonstrated products based on — a tiny new PCI Express expansion standard. Although it's somewhat larger than the PCI Express Mini Card, the tiny new 43mm x 65mm FeaturePak card's high density 230-pin edgecard connector provides twice the number of PCI Express and USB 2.0 channels to the host computer, plus 100 lines dedicated to general purpose I/O, of which 34 signal pairs are implemented with enhanced isolation for use in applications such as gigabit Ethernet or high-precision analog I/O. While FeaturePaks will certainly be used in all sorts of embedded devices (medical instruments, test equipment, etc.), the tiny cards could also be used for developing configurable consumer devices, for example to add an embedded firewall/router or security processor to laptop or notebook computers, or for modular functionality in TV set-top-boxes and Internet edge devices." The president of Diamond Systems, which invented the new card, said "Following the FeaturePak initiative's initial launch, we intend to turn the FeaturePak specification, trademark, and logo over to a suitable standards organization so it can become an industry-wide, open-architecture, embedded standard" (but to use the logo you have to join the organization).

Scientists Say a Dirty Child Is a Healthy Child 331

Researchers from the School of Medicine at the University of California have shown that the more germs a child is exposed to, the better their immune system in later life. Their study found that keeping a child's skin too clean impaired the skin's ability to heal itself. From the article: "'These germs are actually good for us,' said Professor Richard Gallo, who led the research. Common bacterial species, known as staphylococci, which can cause inflammation when under the skin, are 'good bacteria' when on the surface, where they can reduce inflammation."

Why doesn't the Government put out a new RFI for a new aircraft specially designed for the President? Make it one of Obama's "Get to work" plans? We'll spend about $30Billion to design the new aircraft, and it will be the future of all aircraft pushing every limit... it will give us new technologies, it will push innovation to the edge! It will travel at Mach 17! It will be able to get the president to any location in under 2 hours! Yea while we are at it, it will also deliver peace to the mid-east! Ok, I'm better now... put the order in for 2 747-8F's and call it a day.

The point is very simple however... Lou Gehrig's may be caused by defective DNA, if we can see that in the womb why not make the decision to Kill the child before it has to suffer in life... The issue is we are not giving the child the option but instead we can apply a decision for it with our infinite wisdom and decide for that child's life. LIFE IS LIFE. Why have people become so callous to killing children? Is no one else appalled by the ease in which this is happening? People just simply are not willing to take responsibility for their own actions. The US is absolutely not over-crowded, though that doesn't mean that there are not areas that have more population density than others. Move to Wyoming and tell me it's 2-5x over population. Then again the same people who are willing to kill Children, and deciding which Children are worth while to be birthed, are the same who believe that the Earth is melting from Human's meager footprint of C02. It's unreal.

You arrogant ass. To even begin to believe that another human can understand the consequences and potential benefits that could be offered by a different genetic split or different chemical firing in a brain is absurd. NO human being has the intelligence to understand what could be born from any embryo. Whether viable to you or not. The truth is people look to sacrifice life to protect their own small existence. How many examples do you need to see to realize that significant advances have come from some of the most unlikely of candidates?
