Nebraska Scientists Refuse To Carry Out Climate Change-Denying Study 640

Lasrick writes "Nebraska researchers say they refuse to be used as political pawns: 'The problem, according to members of the governor-appointed Climate Assessment and Response Committee, is that the bill behind the study specifically calls for the researchers to look at 'cyclical' climate change. In so doing, it completely leaves out human contributions to global warming.'"

The shooter was reported to be wearing body armour so you would need to make a head shot in a smoke filled and very crowded theatre. So assuming you are even able to identify the shooter in the theatre trying to get that head shot with the panicked patrons running around would be difficult to say the least. What's more likely to happen is that everyone with a gun would have started firing at anyone else brandishing a weapon and the body count would be much higher and the gunman would most likely still have survived.

In a letter to the committee, Sony said it has added automated software monitoring and enhanced data security and encryption to its systems in the wake of the recent security breaches.

After reading the above I just wanted to scream! All of those things should have been setup to begin with not added after a breach. What they should be doing now is firing all of their admins and hiring some who actually know what they are doing rather than people they found wandering around the local Walmart.

The Sony executives can't have things both ways. They are quick to put themselves forward as the reason for the companies successes so conversly they must also take the blame for the failures. While they weren't the ones who setup the servers they are the ones who hold the overall responsibility for safeguarding our personnal information.

As my Sony equipment has been dying I've been replacing it with non-Sony stuff. I've avoided their music arm ever since the whole root kit debacle and I absolutely refuse to buy the PS3 even though I really, really want to play Slam Bolt Scrappers. I really can't envision a situation where I would buy a Sony product again.

Yes but Mussolini didn't make the trains run on time, he just convinced people that they were. The Italian people knew the trains weren't running on time because they were the ones who were sitting around waiting for them but they still accepted him and to this day the falicy is still quoted. Now the train service did improve remarkebly after the first world war but all of that happened before Mussolini came to power but he still claimed it was thanks to him.

Basically people will believe what the government tells them even when they know it isn't true. Maybe believe is the wrong word but they will accept what they are told even in the face of the obvious.

MMBK writes "Our friends at JESS3 have unveiled The Ex-Blocker. It's a Firefox and Chrome plugin that erases all name and likeness of your ex from the Internet, even if they become a meme, or the president. You'll no longer have to threaten to delete your Facebook account or concoct an elaborate e-hoax to assuage the reality-shattering complications that are born from break-ups. Simply construct an Internet that omits bad vibes all together."

Best Format For OS X and Linux HDD? 253

dogmatixpsych writes "I work in a neuroimaging laboratory. We mainly use OS X but we have computers running Linux and we have colleagues using Linux. Some of the work we do with Magnetic Resonance Images produces files that are upwards of 80GB. Due to HIPAA constraints, IT differences between departments, and the size of files we create, storage on local and portable media is the best option for transporting images between laboratories. What disk file system do Slashdot readers recommend for our external HDDs so that we can readily read and write to them using OS X and Linux? My default is to use HFS+ without journaling but I'm looking to see if there are better suggestions that are reliable, fast, and allow read/write access in OS X and Linux."
