Journal bofkentucky's Journal: Turning the tide on /. 26

Discussion over the current poll is showing that the Libs are having their arguments shot down at every turn. The discussion has been largely civil and downmods are few and far between, I think people are finally hearing the truth about Saddam and his links to terror and realize that he is a threat that needs to be taken out.

I also picked up some fans overnight, so hello to all of you, I'll be interested in hearing what you have to say.

  • Liberals, or Libertarians, or both?
    • Liberals as defined by the US democratic party and the various green and socialists around the globe. Libertarians have plenty of great ideas that I don't think work on raw society, but make a great starting point when designing a path for a Gov't to take.
      • Cool, that's pretty much where I'm at too. I call myself Libertarian, but I'm more of a soft Libertarian, I think it provides a good guideline for the "default" thing to do, unless reality gets in the way. :)
  • Are you talking about in general or on a specific thread?

I did notice what you speak of in this thread [slashdot.org]. View it at -1. Some dork [slashdot.org] tried to slam the IDF got modded down pretty quick.

Post still sitting at 100% funny as of this writing.
  • is the belief that they are always correct. A liberal is willing to concede, when necessary, that they may have been incorrect about a particular view or topic. I NEVER see this quality in conservatives. This alone makes them very unpleasant to deal with.
    • That a personality trait, not a platform trait. Coming from a conservative standpoint, I see things the exact opposite way. Nothing special, just our biases coming into play :)
    • I hear you, to a degree.

On my left, I'm concerned that people will say, "I can admit that I'm wrong sometimes. There. I said it. Now you have to admit that what you said is wrong. If you believe that you are right, then don't tell us anymore.". If you look @ how the sentences are actually worded, then you should see that they weren't very fair & accurate things to say.

On my right, I'm concerned that people will never admit they are wrong, just as you seem to imply. But then again, I'm pretty far right
      • Admiting when and where we screw up is an important part of the right in the US, this current action and the war in Afghanistan are recognition of situations that previous administrations (Johnson -> Bush 43 through 9/10/2001) screwed up. We recognize we helped Bin Laden and Saddam when we had a common enemy, now that we realize the mistake, we are taking action to correct them.
  • Nice job posting on the al gore article. went to college in the late 80's about 30 miles from Al Gore's 'home'. My, my it was such a joy to see my home state fall in the Bush column two years ago.
  • I'll be happy and delighted to read and discuss many things so long as no utterly irresponsible and unconstitutional threats/name-callings and other 8th grade tripe are thrown out as they are in Congress and on radio shows. Daschle and dissidents of any stripe are part of the democratic process. We didn't elect a king. If W. turns out right in all ways... whoohoo for him. But no one had better damn well call me or any political representatives who show cordial disagreement "traitors" and "treasonous." T
    • Upholding and defending the Constitution is the point I'm trying to make. Daschle (and Sheen and the rest of the hollywood protestors) have every right to protest, all I and several of us are doing is pointing out the lies and hipocracy (Why didn't Daschle vote against war in Oct or in 1998? Where was Sheen when Clinton invaded Bosnia, Croatia, and Haiti without UN approval?). Truth beats propoganda any day.
  • I posted more conservative viewpoints and had a reasonably good response (on k5, I sure I get flamed). Check out this thread [slashdot.org] and this thread [slashdot.org]. This was in the article about US jobs jumping ship. Also, I read your posts and found them insightful. Check your fans list :)
