According to a post on the official Digg blog about removing support for IE 6, most who use IE 6 cannot upgrade, as they are at work or don't have full control of their computer (ie no admin password). Only 23% of the people asked "Why are you still using IE 6" said that the preferred it / didn't see a need to upgrade.

While universities have welcomed this, firms are claiming it will "punish legitimate businesses." Google has specifically banned "academic paper-writing services and the sale of pre-written essays, theses, and dissertations," which now joins other banned items such as tobacco, drugs, weapons, and prostitution.

Subscriptions to service is much lower than expected and lawmakers are concerned that millions of dollars will have gone to waste and could have been spent spent better for other areas like roads and crime. Satisfaction with the quality of service has also been low, which give some insight into the low adoption rate. Is municipal wi-fi just a bad idea, is it poorly implemented, or is the technology just not there to support such an endeavor?

An anonymous reader writes: In a modern day (and underwater) version of Indiana Jones, the AP is reporting (NYTimes, reg. or bugmenot required...) that Odyssey Marine Exploration has recovered an estimated $500 Million of colonial coins from a 400 year old shipwreck in the atlantic. The exact location of the wreck is still undisclosed. Odyssey is a for-profit, publicly traded company. One wonders how well they treated the ship archeologically in their rush to extract the valuable currency.
