Journal bmetzler's Journal: Questions for Senator John Kerry 19

How can you claim to be the right choice for moderates when your 93 percent approval rating from Americans for Democratic Action, the leading liberal rating organization, is even higher than Ted Kennedy at 88, making him the conservative senator from Massachusetts. With a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of just 6 percent -- compared to 13 for Rep. Dick Gephardt, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Tom Daschle; 14 for Sen. John Edwards; 15 for Rep. Dennis Kucinich, and 19 for Sen. Joe Lieberman -- how can you claim to be anything other than a radical liberal?

In all honesty how could you ask why America's intelligence wasn't better before Sept. 11, 2001, when you not only questioned the large size of the U.S. intelligence community following the "Cold War" during a 1997 speech on the Senate floor, but solely sponsored a bill to slash $1.5 billion from its budget?

You said on Face The Nation: "I don't think any United States senator is going to abandon our troops and recklessly leave Iraq to whatever follows as a result of simply cutting and running. That's irresponsible. ...But I don't think anyone in Congress is going to not give our troops ammunition, not give our troops the ability to defend themselves. We're not going to cut and run and not do the job." Yet isn't your vote against the $87 billion follow-up "irresponsible"? How could we trust you, as commander in chief, not to "abandon our troops" and "cut and run"?

How can you care so little about the lives of our troops in Iraq that you openly encourage our enemies by condemning the Bush Administration's conduct of the war? How is that not treason under its standard definition: Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies?

After voting for President Bush's request to use force in Iraq, you then said America needs "not just a regime change in Saddam Hussein and Iraq, but we need regime change in the United States"? Knowing such a statement would inflame our enemies to our nation's detriment, how can you possibly justify such treasonous lack of support for our Commander in Chief during a time of war?

Ever since lying under oath before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee in 1971 you have been anti-military in every Senate vote and even now seek to inflame terrorists to kill our soldiers? Why should voters not think you will continue your un-American actions that help our enemies to the detriment of our troops?

What have you learned about loyalty to America since dishonoring our nation as leader of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War by protesting under the enemy flag of the Viet Cong? Back then retired General George S. Patton charged you with giving "aid and comfort to the enemy," and Sen. John McCain said his North Vietnamese captors used reports of your protests to taunt him and other U.S. prisoners. Aren't you betraying the United States of America in yet another war?

After your immediate superior officer, Lt.Cmdr. Grant Hibbard, rejected your request for a Purple Heart since you only had, in his words, a "minor scratch" on your arm that didn't result from enemy fire, why did you then petition for reconsideration? Why did you insist on an honor that is bestowed, not requested, for a wound with no written record of medical treatment? Isn't it because you knew three Purple Hearts would get you out of the fighting after only four months of combat service?

How can you claim to oppose homosexual marriage and disagree with the Massachusetts court's decision, when you were among only 14 senators who voted against the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996? Wasn't it knowingly wrong for you to say your position on homosexual marriage is the same of Vice President Dick Cheney, who strongly supports a presidential push to ban same-sex marriage and sees the need for a constitutional marriage amendment in light of recent action by courts in your home state of Massachusetts?

How can you insist on financial responsibility during this campaign, when in reality you in have a lifetime rating of just 26 percent from Citizens Against Government Waste? How can you -- who five times voted against a balanced budget amendment -- explain your irresponsibility of being a long-time supporter of federal funding for Boston's "Big Dig," which to date has totaled more than $13.6 billion?

How can you hypocritical rant against influence peddlers and special interests in your campaign speeches when you have accepted $638,000 from lobbyists over the past 15 years -- the most of anyone in the Senate?

If you came to believe a baby experiences pain in the womb, as scientific evidence proves beyond a doubt, would that change your stand on abortion?

You claim middle ground on abortion, but didn't you earn a 0 percent rating from the National Right To Life Committee, while your National Abortion And Reproductive Rights League rating is consistently 100 percent? After three times opposing a ban on partial-birth abortions, how can you claim to be anything but in favor of killing pre-born children for convenience and profit?

As a Catholic under the authority of Jesus Christ, why do you openly rebel against the church's nonnegotiable ethical principles on abortion and homosexuality, informing Time: "I don't tell church officials what to do, and church officials shouldn't tell American politicians what to do in the context of our public life "?

Just because someone says he is a U.S. citizen, is he? Unless certain criteria are met, the claim is false, right? Why then do you call yourself a Catholic without meeting the chruch's basic criteria? What basic requirements must someone meet to call himself a Catholic?

Why for many years did you claimed Irish ancestry? Was it to benefit at the ballot box in Massachusetts, which has a large Irish population? Now that you've been caught and confessed your ancestors actually were Austrian Jews, not Irish Catholics, why shouldn't America expect you to continue to lie for votes?

  • Did you copy and paste that from somewhere, or did you pull the information together from disparate sources? If the latter, you should submit that to NewsMax or WND as an editorial. I don't know what they'd do with it, but it's informative and entertaining reading.
    • Did you copy and paste that from somewhere, or did you pull the information together from disparate sources?

It was emailed to me. I presume that NewsMax and WND already has a copy, but it was unattributed, and I don't really know where it came from.

General George Patton died in 1945. I seriously doubt he had much to say about Kerry's conduct after Kerry returned from Vietnam.

This makes me question the accuracy of the rest of the "facts" in your post. (no I don't have either th
    • I was trying to figure out what was wrong with that Patton quote, because Patton... you beautiful son of a bitch... I SAW YOUR MOVIE!!!

And I remember the notes at the end that said he dies in a motorcycle accident in england not too long after the war.

  • You're an idiot. At least make some effort to know some facts.

Less than 60 percent of the Big Dig was paid for by the Federal government (IIRC, it's 56 percent). Furthermore, even taking the Big Dig into account, Massachusetts is one of the very few states that has paid more to the Federal government in gas taxes than it has received (mainly owing to the fact that, apart from the Big Dig and related projects, nothing has been built since the early 1970s).

  • How can you claim to oppose homosexual marriage and disagree with the Massachusetts court's decision, when you were among only 14 senators who voted against the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996?

Those aren't incompatible. Opposition to gay marriage does not mean that one believes that the Federal government should prevent a state from enacting it if it sees fit.

  • Once again you post misinformation without any sources to backup your "questions."

And seriously, quoting the dead [employees.org]?

I know you're hot to discredit Sen. Kerry and that is fine, but at least try and use valid information.

It failed because the Republicans sponsored - and passed! - a bill which cut more than $3 billion at the same time. Whoops!

After your immediate superior officer, Lt.Cmdr. Grant Hibbard, rejected you
    • States' Rights? You know, that thing the Republicans used to be all about?

Actually, historically, the Republicans have always been the Federal Party as opposed to the State Party. It's only recently (post WWII) that they've been stylising themselves as the party for "small government" and "economic conservatism".

Well, that's a bit unfair, after all they did have Herbert Hoover, and he was extremely "economically conservative". I think that was more from fear of acting than any real moral judgement that h

I don't get your point here.

The documentation for the medical treatment is on Kerry's website. Look harder next time!

It's there now. It wasn't there when Kerry said it was. Obviously, Kerry was forced to "pay up."

States' Rights? You know, that thing the Republicans used to be all about? Or how about the fact that Congress doesn't have the power to legislate marriage?

      Sinc

      • I don't get your point here.

My point is the Republicans succeeded in cutting the intelligence budget more than Kerry was proposing to do, yet they criticize Kerry for proposing to do it!

Since when have Democrats cared about State's rights?

And this changes the fact that the Republicans are ignoring states' rights - which they claim to protect - how?

They didn't care last year when the Supreme court heard the Texas sodomy case. They didn't care when the Supreme court heard the prayer in school cases.
        • The problem with the gay marriage issue is that neither side supports states rights. With marriage it is an all or nothing situation. Either all states allow it, or no states allow it because each state has to honor a marriage done in another state. To claim that it is a states right is a fallacy. So, at the federal level if there is a consitutional amendment we can allow a minority to not impose its will upon the majority, otherwise if a single state recognizes gay marriage then all states must.

In many cases members of Congress vote against a bill whose general goals they agree with because of concerns about certain provisions. Presidents veto bills for the same reason.

Then the other party runs ads saying that "Representative Jones voted against the Soldier's Children Support Act. Representative Jones: he hates soldiers' babies."
    • Oh yeah, preach it brother, preach it!

That was beautiful, Random. The quote from FDR was particularly apt.

How can you care so little about the lives of our troops in Iraq that you openly encourage our enemies by condemning the Bush Administration's conduct of the war? How is that not treason under its standard definition:

I just want to respond to this in my own words, though FDR did say it better than I could.

Any society in which it becomes treasonous or otherwise illegal to criticize the government

Once it hits the fan, the only rational choice is to sweep it up, package it, and sell it as fertilizer.
