I think you should be more educated on QT before you think it should rot in hell. Please name ANY other new media architecture that can come close to what quicktime can do. Quicktime can decode MPEG2 or AC-3 audio, given the codec to do it, and enough horsepower. ANYONE can write a codec if they want to. The codec could run entirely on the processor, or utilize hardware assist, if installed. MPEG2 is not better than Quicktime, its just a compression standard, which being an owner of dvd hardware and software, I agree with you that it rocks.
The next comment is not meant for the original writer of this thread, but for as smart as all you linux geeks think you are, I am astounded by the level of ignorance on slashdot when it comes to anything unrelated to rebuilding your kernal. In general, there are two kinds of posts and posters. Linux heads that pan anything NOT linux, and intelligent people actually have a valid point, and understand all platforms and what they are best used for.
