Comment Why should an OS distribution have everything? (Score 1) 567
As Windows has proven through the years, when the OS ships with all sorts of crap that really belongs in the application area, the rest of the software vendores don't do well marketing their competing "features" and what we end up with is lowest-common-denominator-Redmond-threw-it-in-to-s tifle-competition stuff. People still write programs which compete with the crap shipped with Windows, (example WMA), but they don't do well at it; this forces them to raise prices to stay in business, which means even less people will buy it, which eventually means the mediocre crap wins out.
