It was. Amiga was able to pre-emptively multitask when PC was running DOS and Mac were still black and white. Look at novel features like having features like datatype that mean the OS could be evergreen with new file type support, gaining support over the years for GIF, JPG, PNG, and even SVG. This is all at the OS level, so any application that is datatype aware gets support for these new types. It was way ahead of its time, I still miss some basic things like preferences all have Save, Use, and Cancel buttons. Use was especially useful to test out an option for that session only and when you rebooted your machine that pref would revert to the last saved setting.
