A more realistic method of getting corporations to actually obey laws is to hold the people who run those corporations individually responsible for the malfeasance, starting with the CEO. Fine the company too, but fine the executives. And how about a three-strikes law for those executives? Three offenses equals mandatory jail time.

Now that's a three-strikes law I can get behind.

On the other hand Java and Eclipse are shit.

I can't let this go without comment, I work with Java and Eclipse every day.

Java is a solid object oriented language, with widespread support and proven ability in production systems around the world.

Eclipse is an absolute delight, a joy for any programmer, and it's written in Java.

Where's the excrement?

"Minor things like your email client"

You obviously have never been forced to use Lotus Notes. I spend about 10 minutes every day waiting for that POS software just to update it's display. Another 20 minutes a week working out how to do something that is banal in any real email client. That's over an hour each week wasted on crappy software. One hour of my time, especially at the companys expense, is not minor.

When you spend all day working with software, and a lot of time with a particular app like an email client, the choice of software has a huge impact on your work environment.

Minor: no. Major.

Real Nanotechnology Getting Closer, Says Drexler 134

destinyland writes "Sun Microsystems has helped fund a 198-page nanotechnology roadmap — but how close are we to real nanotechnology? A science writer asked four nano pioneers, including K. Eric Dexler ('progress is accelerating') and Ralph Merkle ('the exponential trends continue to be exponential') Though we don't have Star Trek replicators yet, the article lists some surprising recent nano developments (artificial tissue, nanoparticle sheets, ultrathin diamond nanorods). And the roadmap's scientists are envisioning targeted cancer therapies, super-efficient solar cells, high-density computer memory chips and even responsive 'smart' materials."

if you are an astronaut an the mission has been rescheduled like 3 times because of failiures on the ship would you fly on that? i wont, i guess that bird its to old to fly any more.

You get a chance to fly into freaking space (ok LEO, but it's still space) and you're going to say no because the craft needs some maintenance? I'm going to guess you never bungie-jumped or sky dived.
