Comment Astrology, IMO (Score 1) 468

The scientific haters of astrology say that 'the planets/stars are too far, their influence is very weak..' I think those people are just arrogant. The planets/stars are huge objects that bend space-time, emit EM radiation and particles.. We are just a mycosis on one small rock and as such, we are affected by changes in the environment of the rock. Astrology studies the relation between us (the individual) and the clockwork of outer space. It is an old science that combines math, astronomy, history, medicine, sociology, psychology. It requires the apprentice to be open-minded and to have some level of empathy. And of course, one has to study. The basics can be covered in a year, but the devil is in the detail, so one can study astrology his whole life and still be surprised. Besides, a good astrology book starts by saying that it can help you to understand, not to predict. However, there are also bad books on astrology. There are also lazy/greedy people with no talent or integrity and these charlatans degrade the whole idea. Combine that with the arrogance of modern science and the stupidity of modern journalism and as a result, members of human society are deprived of a tool that can help them to understand life.

Obligatory: I have not RTFA ;) But I see it more like a first attempt to get to the 3laws. When E.T. came to cinemas I couldn't read yet so my mother had to read the subtitles for me (this was in OMG!! socialist CzechoSlovakia) and I have been a sci-fi fan since. But you know, it's just stories about possible concepts that cannot be realized yet. But we are getting there. Sometimes it's faster (computing, communications..), sometimes slower (energy, spacetech, robotics..) than expected. Industrial robots with great force and dangerous tools have been working with humans for years, but until now it was the DirtyDancing approach: 'This is my space and this is your space'.. I think it is good that they work on man/machine interaction solution and we might eventually get The 3 Laws of Robotics, or something like it ;)

I am glad to hear that it is faster - hell! I am glad it works and even more - on an old config, because I have a 3yr old asus A6M. I am always quite suspicious about Ubuntu. My first experience was OK, but it was the 6.x and set up by an uebergeek friend of mine. Then a 7.10 64bit did not even get to install (serious graphic issue - just stripes on the screen), the 7.10 i386 was OK (after solving the issue with nVidia Go and yes, it was not that difficult to do some editing after 15s of googlin' ;) Then the 8.04 64bit was beautiful and fast with one tiny little problem with the network - and we know that Only a network is a computer. This time I couldn't solve that so it just sits there and takes 20GB of my disk space. I should wait until 8.04.1 was out... So when I yesterday finally started the 8.04.1 64bit I realized that it is more convenient to go with the 32bit edition. But for now I think I will just wait and continue with XP. btw - the only time I saw a BSOD on my winXP on the said notebook was after I have installed Firefox3 when it was released and updated winamp at the same time. So much for a fresh version. :(

See, there is a problem - different processes take place during aging. Of course, using this method won't add any flavour to the beverage - you need a wooden barrel for that. But this is about the heavier alcohols mentioned above. You can filter those out by active charcoal filtration. What this machine does is the decomposition of these big molecules. And it works - one of my professors at university uses the ultrasonic cleaner (regular lab/jewelers equipment) for aging of plum brandy. Fruit brandies are traditionally very popular in central Europe - it's the best way of saving summer sunlight for the cold winter ;) The best distillers even don't want to sell you a product that is younger than 6years (and yes, the aging takes place in glass containers).
