Hmmm, Physics 501 Question: Use a laser to create a short-term conductive ionized channel between the ground and the top of the atmosphere where there is a much higher charge potential. Describe what happens next. Lawrence Livermore shot flashy lasers into the sky in the early 1990s, and they had electrical atmospheric discharge issues.

I must admit to be touched by ghosts of the past, NDAs that have expired, a cruise by freaking extreme accident with the whole Xerox Mexico sales and marketing teams sailing to Alaska that were slammed with fraud charges six months later in the early 2000s, and in the early 1990s renting a flat from the past UK sales manager on an island in the middle of the Thames (sooo random). The company and brand in my view continues to spasm much in a similar pattern that IBM legacy hardware and software business has over the decades with a long tail of entrenched customers. Andrew Grove at Intel first walked us thru "strategic inflections" to operating worldwide business models and how the world beneath you suddenly changed. I still see IBM and Xerox as camels that did not adapt fast enough. Cruel but true: listen to Danny DeVito, his scriptwriter(s) were geniuses:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Suggesting cutting manned stations to two people is just nuts. If one dies, leaving someone alone in isolation can drive them insane, as the manned lighthouse service in the UK learned in Victorian times. After a number of deaths when storms moved the lighthouse staff into isolation during the winter and single deaths dealing with essential repairs a number of remaining insane single staff were discovered. Now let's say in modern times an extended solar storm series in space cuts communications for months. One has to go on an EVA and something bad happens. Not good for the remaining crew member.

Both UK blast furnaces will have to be completely rebuilt to a different design soon to meet Net-zero targets, costing 2-3 billion GBP, and years of elapsed time to demolish and rebuild. The UK government offered 300 million to each company last week, nowhere near enough to entice the companies to stay. This new retrofit of existing furnaces might fit in that type of budget.

Quite dismayed that the orginal article doesn't start to go down a bit further looking at the commercial SSH solutions with various levels of key management; SSH inc, Dell(Quest/Vintella), Venafi, CA, FoxT and others. They've been doing business for decades, using "improved SSH key management" as one of their key messages, and their target markets are corporates with strong brands, energy companies, financial services organisations and goverments. Would like to see a new survey slicing up the Open SSH and Commercial SSH footprints.
