Comment Realworld value on a trusted network (Score 1) 51

I'm curious to know what the rest of the community think of the value of the VPN providers?

They claim your so much more secure, when technically unless you don't trust your ISP all that you are really doing is moving your egress point out to the VPN provider where your unencrypted traffic will again traverse the internet and could be eaves dropped on.

If your that concerned about your traffic then make sure all your applications and sites you use are encrypted else your living on false sense of security.

IMHO the only real use-case for a VPN is when traveling and using untrusted networks such as hotels, cafes etc etc and to access networks not exposed to the outside world such as corporate networks or home networks when traveling.

Submission + - Video Game Legends Inducted to Hall of Fame (ivghof.com)

killdashnine writes: Last year Kotaku reported the creation of the International Video Game Hall of Fame and Museum in Ottumwa, Iowa and a first event in 2009 which brought 3,500 people to witness it. Since then, there's been much progress towards creation of the museum with the "Big Bang 2010". Their first event kicks off with formal induction ceremonies, tournaments, record-setting attempts, and an array of concerts from 8-bit music to modern rock. This serves as the first official fundraiser for this new Non-Profit.

Iowa is positioning itself as the Video Game Capitol of the World. While some sneer and scoff at this, pointing to LA or Seattle as gaming giants and rightful heirs to the title, the real goal is not to glorify software developers but rather to memorialize the "heroes of video games", from the iconic Pac Man to pioneers such as Ralph Baer. There's a lot of history in this small town on the banks of the Des Moines River, and when an entire town turns up to support something new and bold it's worth a look!

Comment Re:You CAN get multplayer bots in BF2 -- sort of.. (Score 1) 86

We'll if you think about it, this wont be a good idea in the online (registered) hosted game servers. If you have bots there is a degree of predictability in their behavior, where as humans are a little more unstable :)

And now to the point, if you exploit a bot's weakness you will skew the online rating system, and it would be very easy for someone to pad their scores.
Conversely if the bots where too good, they would slaughter you and you would have a negative score, not nice :)
