They can always charge for the truck roll to the premises. Telcos have had no problems doing it for years. Repair or new service -- charge to cover the truck roll...unless you go for a standard non-$15/month plan! There's the bargain! *sarcasm* Seriously -- telcos have used the 'inform the customer of possible charges' playbook for YEARS. Shouldn't be any reason why they wouldn't do the same for specific plans they would HAVE to offer.

The company paying for outsourced support (technical and/or customer service) should have a team that processes customer feedback, and mitigates causes of negative feedback from customers. Most of the time, the actual agents in outsourced support centers, will not receive much impact from doing a crappy job. MOST of the time, not all the time. Last company I worked for, the outsourced support provider we used had agents tell me that if they do badly with the client account they're working for, they just get reassigned to a different account. Granted, that was several years ago, but I don't think the weight of accountability on these outsourced agents has changed much over the years.

Just finished downloading the ISO for Xubuntu. Had 11.10 running on my 'older' P4 box, and it ran like a dream -- actually have it running right beside my i7-870 box with Win7, and the i7 box only runs slightly faster than my Xubuntu box. I would totally jump ship to Xubuntu, but unfortunately I have to have Windows for work...and don't really feel like dual-booting...but if it runs just as smooth as 11.10, then I'm pumped...

iOS has the apps, not just iPad. I'll give them that much.

Apps come as an advantage because people tend to develop for a platform that everyone is buying (for reason, see my post). Now that Android tablets are starting to become relevant, and with a new OS that is much more available than Honeycomb, I can see developers having less barriers to creating tablet-friendly applications for Android tablets.

And if Facetime/front-facing cameras are the ONE reason why you went with iPhones, then YOU need to get your ass out of the sand yourself. Facetime is not the only application that allows video chatting on a mobile platform. Front-facing cameras? Let's see:

  • * Samsung Exhibit 4G - $30 (after mail-in rebate, $80 before mail-in)
  • * myTouch 4G - $50 (after mail-in rebate, $100 before)
  • * G2x - $99 (after mail-in rebate)
  • * Samsung Infuse 4G - $50
  • * LG Thrill 4G - $99

That's just with AT&T and T-Mobile.

My co-worker's iPads are sluggish. The real reason why it is successful is because people are stupid enough to think all Apple products are top shelf. Not always the case... Even if the lower priced tablets are just below par, it still perks the attention of people not wanting to fork over their wallets for an iPad.
