Submission + - Bletchley Park faces financial rescue (scmagazineuk.com)

biscuitfever11 writes: Just two months ago it seemed that Bletchley Park, the home of Station X, Britain's secret code-breaking base during the War, was doomed as the codebreakers' huts rotted and the site fell into disrepair. But today Britain's Lottery Fund is set to step in with a grant to rescue the ailing heritage site, as this story on Secure Computing describes: http://www.scmagazineuk.com/Exclusive-Bletchley-Park-set-for-Lottery-rescue/article/112100/

Submission + - Bletchley Park faces financial ruin

biscuitfever11 writes: Bletchley Park, the home of Station X, Britain's secret codebreaking base during World War II is facing financial ruin as shown by these images compiled by ZDNet this week. The site there has been majorly redeveloped as an act of remembrance to the Allied efforts to break the Enigma code but now its future is under threat. This is an insightful look at what's happened to Bletchley Park these days and the pain it's going through.

Submission + - Michael Meeks heads off OpenXML

biscuitfever11 writes: ZDNet has a great interview with Michael Meeks, the distinguished Novell engineer, who's currently in the throes of considerable efforts behind open document format and OpenOffice.org. In the interview, Meeks takes Microsoft to task on its alternative format OpenXML. He argues why Microsoft should adopt open document format and why the flexibility of open source software would have avoided the need for that horrid paperclip icon from Microsoft Word, Clippy.
