
Journal biggj's Journal: KDE ... Windoze of Linux 6
I had some trouble with X today. "Kate" caused it to crash and I had to do a force quit which caused X to get a little tweaked. For some reason xfs didn't start. I restarted it and it everything was fine.
This is weird because everything was running great until I installed kde-libs, kde-base, et al. I installed them to run "k3b" which was recommended to me as one of the best burners on linux. I must admit, it is great. But I don't know if it's worth the extra weight of KDE.
It seems to me, and don't hate me if you love KDE, but KDE is the Windoze of the Linux desktops. It's bloated and tries to do too much for you.
k3b is overrated (Score:1)
If you're using KDE strictly for k3b, I would say use the interface you want and junk k3b, because X-CD-Roast is a great alternative.
I like KDE because of the highly customizable menu bars. I really would like to go back to gnome, and I might when I'm not busy. Now, don't get me wrong. k3b is a great program. I just like X-CD-Roast better. My

I do have the same sentiments .... KDE is bloated. But then so is GNOME . I have or rather,had [slashdot.org] ... a PIII 450 Machine with 128 MB SDRAM and a 40 Gig-er running RH8 .
And yes... the system does crawl on BOTH.
So i took the easy way out ... XFCE4 and Blackbox!! :)Yippeee!!

Sorry, couldnt resist that.
Im overdue for a new computer, though. But i guess that itll have to wait till i get my job.
BTW just wanteed to ask, offtopic and all that, but just how "available" are transmeta chips (processors) out there , out of 'ole India? Are they good?
