Journal bethanie's Journal: Filling "the Void" 31

Couldn't pass this one up: Women Tailor Sex Industry to Their Eyes (NYTimes free reg, or use ID: bethaniejournal, password: happystick, and have one on me!!).

And since there are so many, I'm just going to take this quote by quote:

"Women have a voice now -- 'This is what I want and this is how I want it,'"

You need me to say it again? Let me speak up!

"Women are fueling the growth"

Well, isn't that *usually* the case? Well, except for most of these guys.

...The Internet has been a major factor in unleashing women's interest in all things sexual.

Uh, I don't think so, Tim. I think maybe it has provided a convenient way for women to access things sexual in a way that they can avoid the social stigma of actually indulging their interests. But I contend that the interest has *always* been there. Society does its best to repress it -- after all, how can we be good mothers to our children AND be horny?! It's a conundrum!! -- but you can't fight Mama Nature. And sex *is* nature -- at its finest!!

More women in the business helps to generate more female demand. ...The Tupperware-style demonstration parties of sex toys, where women sit around with friends in a relaxed setting, help to promote sex toys as fun and mainstream. The saleswomen make the toys "imaginable," she said, for those who would never have considered using them.

Heh heh. That's one Tupperware party I want to invite my MOM to. Better yet, my MOTHER-IN-LAW!! :-D

"There are new sexual repertoires, new rules and expectations, being created. It's not just about romance. It's about increasing sexual pleasure. "

Oh yeah, baby. Let's talk about this new sexual repertoire. Very good phrase. I know a few folks who could just use a refresher course on the *old* sexual repertoire (women included!!).

"Are they doing this to please the men or please themselves?" asked Tamara Kreinin, president of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, a nonprofit group that promotes comprehensive education about sexuality. "'Sex and the City' is indicative of a certain comfort, but for most women it's much less about sex and much more about the relationship."

Yeah. Leave it to another chick to question other women's justification in getting their rocks off. Let me clue you in: there are some women who like *sex*. They enjoy *porn*. They get off on these things, whether there's a man involved, or not. And when you get a man involved, yes, they can deal with the relationship on those terms. But when it comes time to get business done, they don't need a bunch of moonlight and romance. Proper stimulation applied in the correct amounts to the appropriate places (physical *and* mental) is pretty much all it takes.

embracing pornography is an unhealthy sign that women are trying to imitate men's attitudes toward sex rather than using their perspective to influence men's behavior.

Or maybe they might have something in common!!

Many new sexual entrepreneurs say they are filling a void

I'll say!! The "Big Mac Daddy Pleasure Wand" is my particular favorite for that specific purpose.

To sum up: Hey guys!! Women like sex!! And they're buying videos and toys and other paraphernalia to help get themselves off! I wouldn't be threatened if I were you -- I'd just make sure to take my vitamins! :-)

Maybe we should go back to the innuendo? :)
  • Yeah. Leave it to another chick to question other women's justification in getting their rocks off.

I think women have a bigger problem with women being sexual, and "vulgar" sexual at that, than with men being sexual. With men, they can say "well, men are pigs." You can't say "women are pigs," so other forms of bitchiness surfaces. There's something wrong with you if you're a woman and just want a good no-strings-attached bonk. Since "women want romance," the women who just want that bonk ruin everything b

    • most of it is so tacky I laugh myself to death rather than get off.

Preachin' to the choir, sister! Seriously. When was the last time *you* wore spike high heels (and nothing else!!) for sex -- and *really* enjoyed it? (OK, you *might* enjoy it, and if so, then cool for you. But I just can't get comfortable in that kind of footwear. And comfort is paramount.) Not to mention those fake nails. Tell you what guys -- one of those gets misplaced and poked in and OUCH. Game over!

And this is just the appearance

Do you really want to know?

        Wait...you're bethanie...of course you do...!!

        Um...1993 ;-)

        • I was *so* tempted to mod this up.

But mod points in a journal is so... odd.
          • I've seen people modded *down* in their own journal, which is even funnier.
          • I've had mod points once thus far, and modded up a comment I liked, and was meta-modded fair! I've also received two up-mods from others in the same context.

Oddly, I've had one opportunity to moderate, but about ten to meta-mod, and you meta-mod ten at a time, making it twenty times as much.

Who moderates so much in the first place, I wonder?

            • Pretty sure moderating is all about how often you post and/or meta mod, with a *strong* emphasis on people with high karma.

Since I've been posting here for a long time with good karma, I seem to get mod points shortly after each time I post.

(So by posting here I'm pretty much guaranteed to get more, heh.)

              • Just got more mod points. Is this the inverse of "famous last words", or a case of tempting (good) fate?

I but some (hopefully not too tedious) comments in your journal, re: excessively high mods.

Yep. What you say seems to make sense!

        • Yeah, sounds like about the same range for me, too. Right in there with wearing nuthin' but Saran Wrap.

Oh, and for the record, I'm not nosy (the questions could have been interpreted purely rhetorically, if you wished) -- but I do feel that if you're inclined to divulge, then by all means, DO! Everyone is entitled to their own privacy, however they wish to define that.

          ....Bethanie....
      • We won't even get into the actual mechanics, "acting" ability, and "plots"!!

Speaking for all "men like me", I must repeat that plot is best left to the imagination :)

        [whisper]
I haven't met many women with your attitude toward the heels in bed, but stop telling the other chicks, okay? I knew it might be a lucky streak running my whole life, now you spoiled it!
        [/whisper]
  • Is anyone else finding it odd that one of the women involved in this porn for women thinf is named ... "Head"?

  • embracing pornography is an unhealthy sign that women are trying to imitate men's attitudes toward sex rather than using their perspective to influence men's behavior.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It doesn't even make sense. And what does that imply that the female perspective is? Something out of the mid-1800's?

The funny thing is, so many types of relationships, media, and levels of raunchiness are all umbrella'd under this one big label. And a lot of the grosser types are only availab

It seems pretty time consuming to actually find a gallery you could watch right away... I still think slumping over to your local convenience store and buying a magazine is easier.

    • USENET is your horny friend. I... uhhh... have a friend who uses this thing called a news server. It is heavily populated with porn of all kinds. In the US, pretty much every ISP and university has one as part of the service. Use a dedicated news reader program like Free Agent from Forte or a mail program like Outlook Express, which includes a newsreader. My... friend... uses Pan under Linux. The porn is all sorted out into whatever might or might not float your boat.

    • Seems to me that if all you want is to watch a guy & a girl making out, going to the video store or magazine shop would be a lot easier...

But if you did that there would be a record of your purchase (namely in the form of a receipt), and also the object itself. This is the absolute last thing you want laying around the house when you've got a prudish prig for a SO.

I don't look at pornography... *cough cough wink* but I hear that if you search for TGPs, you're usually not bothered for credit cards. W

This is true. In my teenage years, I worked at a videostore, and it was always pretty nasty when we had to inform the lady who came in to rent "snow white" for her kids, that there was 7 bucks of late charges on her account, for "rambone, first blood" (-: Although, I still think it's easier to get caught surfing porn - next time the SO starts to type in 'prayer' and gets auto completion for 'pron', hehehe.

Never happens to me, first we've got multiple computers, and second, I always clear my cache, history, autocompletion, and everything else. I do it every time I browse, even if it's just slashdot, a habit ingrained from when I lived with my Father.

As for being grossed out, I can't disagree there. The female actors tend to look like they've been beaten wi
