Disney Sued by Law Firm Wanting to Use 'Steamboat Willie' in Its Ads (apnews.com) 92

Mickey Mouse's first movie Steamboat Willie entered the public domain in 2024.

Now one of America's largest personal injury firms is suing Disney, reports the Associated Press, "in an effort to get a ruling that would allow it to use Steamboat Willie in advertisements..." [The law firm said] it had reached out to Disney to make sure the entertainment company wouldn't sue them if they used images from the animated film for their TV and online ads. Disney's lawyers responded by saying they didn't offer legal advice to third parties, according to the lawsuit. Morgan & Morgan said it was filing the lawsuit to get a decision because it otherwise feared being sued by Disney for trademark infringement if it used Steamboat Willie.
"Without waiver of any of its rights, Disney will not provide such advice in response to your letter," Disney's attorneys wrote in their letter (adding "Very truly yours..."). A local newscast showed a glimpse of the letter, along with a few seconds of the ad (which ends with Minnie Mouse pulling out a cellphone to call for a lawyer...)

Attorney John Morgan tells the newscast that Disney's legal team "is playing cute, and so we're just trying to get a yes or no answer.. They wrote us back a bunch of mumbo-jumbo that made no sense, didn't answer the question. We tried it again, they didn't answer the question..." (The newscast adds that the case isn't expected to go to court for at least a year.)

Valve To Drop Steam Support For 32-Bit Windows Versions Next Year (tomshardware.com) 39

Valve is dropping support for Steam running on 32-bit versions of Windows, starting January 1, 2026. A report adds and comments: Steam has been available on Windows for more than two decades and, therefore, was built with 32-bit systems in mind. Today, every modern computer is 64-bit, with compatibility layers built in to support older 32-bit apps. So, even though 32-bit apps have carried forward, there's really no place for 32-bit operating systems anymore -- which is why Valve is axing support for them.

For now, due to the fact that upstream chromium is losing the ability to have good adblock they may lose that ability too if they get patch fatigue or missing major security patches.

If you really like Vivaldi and you want to be sure you'll have full powered Ublock origin, check out FLOORP(no this is not a prank, that's the real program name). its a firefox fork made by a Japanese college. and has some of the basic built in vivialdi quality of life upgrades that Firefox is missing

I found slashdot sometime around two decades ago. I loved it but soon found myself on digg because of content quantity. When digg blew itself away I fully migrated to reddit. When front page killed itself I hid in smaller subreddits and old.reddit but I'm only here on slashdot again right now because I've had it with reddit. They did a full 180 on essentially everything that encouraged me to move in in the first place. Now here I am on slashdot. Still awesome. No shark jumping (unless you count the adware bundling from the parent company years ago)

If MLB tv didn't black out local markets there is zero percent chance I wouldn't pay for it. I lived out of state of my favorite team for a while. They have so many fantastic options, like watching opposing team's broadcast or playing the synced audio from the radio broadcasts on top of the video broadcast. Randomly checking out the score of any other team. Now that I'm back in my home state, it doesn't feel worth it to pay for it, but I do miss being able to watch other games at the drop of a hat.
