This checks out with my subjective observations. I've been running open weights Qwen3.8 Next Flash model at home, and the only differences I see compared to Anthropic's latest Opus is that it is slower, and doesn't handle very long contexts comfortably (which, however, can be mitigated). Otherwise it reasons, programs, calls tools, researches materials just as well as Opus does... while doing all this LOCALLY.

Why aren't drivers, manufacturers, gov agency officials focusing on the biggest problem with this: SAFETY I've driven one of the modern Volvos as a rental, where climate controls were on touch screen. This is glaringly unsafe: with physical buttons, you don't take eyes of the road. With touchscreen, you take your eyes off the road, FOCUS on something close to you, battle with the sluggish interface, then eyes back on the road, re-focus to infinity. Abhorrent and demonstrably unsafe experience.

You would need to read into the rules of the competition. I bet the goal was stated as "run 100m as fast as possible" but nothing about stopping. Engineers optimised against the competition rules at the cost of everything else, including graceful stopping. Given the organizers put a blue soft wall after the finish line, they were expecting this kind of optimisation from competing engineering teams.

It is for kids really. My 8-year old loves it for the looks. And it makes sounds too, and has some ambient music. The whole thing is distracting for any normal person. Not sure who the target audience on Linux is.
