1) I don't use a single program, I use a single format. I use different programs per platform, but all of them use Password Safe compatible databases. Sync is done via an encrypted cloud storage service.

2) Admittedly, this is a potential issue, but in my opinion there are two problems with this point. First, you trivialize it by saying "all you have to do is crack the keychain." With a strong enough passphrase that will not be easy at all. Second, you're changing the threat model under discussion. A compromised website with re-used passwords is one thing, someone coming directly after your locally stored data (e.g., your keychain) is another. In the first model, the attacker will not have access to your keyring, and therefore has no chance of cracking it. In the second model, if you're the direct target, precautions probably aren't going to matter.

3) Backups. The same encrypted storage service that handles my sync keeps automatic, versioned backups.

Cablevision To Offer 101 Mbps Down, No Caps 375

nandemoari alerts us to news over at DSLReports that Cablevision will be offering subscribers 101-Mbps download service, a new US record. That's fast enough to download an HD movie in less than 10 minutes. The package, known as "Ultra," will launch on May 11 and will cost $99.95 a month. Upload speed is 15 Mbps and there are no monthly limits. Cablevision is also doubling the speed of its Wi-Fi service, which is available free to subscribers using hotspots across the Northeast. "...the company will be launching a new 'Ultra' tier on May 11. The new tier features speeds of 101Mbps downstream and 15Mbps upstream for $99.95 a month. That's an unprecedented amount of speed at an unprecedented price, suggesting that Cablevision just took the gloves off in their fight against Verizon FiOS. ... Cablevision spokesman Jim Maiella confirmed for me that the $99.95 price is unbundled, and the new tier does not come with any kind of a usage cap or overage fees."

G.I. Joe Game On the Way 37

Electronic Arts has revealed that they are developing a G.I. Joe video game that will be launched alongside the G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra movie later this year. According to the announcement, the game "picks up where the live-action movie leaves off, allowing players to re-create and re-live the greatest moments from the film, cartoon series and action figure toy line." The game is planned for the PS2, PS3, PSP, mobile devices, Xbox 360, Wii, and DS. EA confirmed that there would be a co-op mode, but it's unknown whether there will be an online component.
