We need humans because the equipment is just so damned unreliable. There always some systems that are not working properly and aircraft operating under MEL conditions. Until component robustness and reliability are increased by a significant margin, single pilot of commercial aircraft can not be performed as safely as commercial aircraft are operated today.

We can probably build systems that can be 99.5% reliable in the event of pilot incapacitation in getting the plane and passengers down safely.

99.5% is no where near the level require of currently in place systems, and the readability will have to be increased when removing a pilot. Currently reliability for DAL-A systems is less than 1 x 10 to the negative 9 (1e-9) chance of failure per flight hour.

Automation is not the problem, but humans refusing to believe the information that the automation is presenting and the resulting confirmation bias is a very significant problem. I would be all on-board for increased automation, except for one glaring problem that the industry does not want to publicly speak about - the lack of robustness of the automated systems (and the high level of NFF - no fault found - when these systems are checked based on pilot reports) and the frequency for which pilots doing the job they're paid to o, deal with a system or function that goes INNOP during and particular phase of flight

The level on inconvenience will not even be noticeable. Would you notice any difference if you swapped a car you owned to a car you lease? The dude still gets on his private jet, probably a jet leased specifically for him and will have the same flight a cabin crew as before. What I find more interesting is why the aircraft registry was not just registered as private and therefore not publicly trackable? Bizjets have been having their A/C registrations registered as private for decades now. I used to do that all the time for certain type of bizjet clients when I was work for Bombardier.
