it's been good to see more attention given to architecture/civil engineering on slashdot lately. i was beginning to wonder if the slashdot world had forgotten us dirt, steel, and concrete nerds. (we're nerds with feelings too you know ...)
OBLIGATORY POLL COMPLAINT:
Santiago Calatrava is my personal favorite in the architect/engineer world. being a structural engineer i appreciate his work immensely--his projects entail some amazingly complicated structural design, to say the least. his "foldable structures" are quite interesting as well.
Wright and Gehry are at the top of my list as well. Having visited another Wright home last week i have a renewed appreciation for his genius. I highly recommend taking a "good"* tour of one of his works (i.e. Fallingwater, Taliesin West, etc.)--and really take some time to let it soak in while you're there. only then will you start to really see what he was trying to accomplish and how pefectly he pulled it off.
(* good = knowledgable tour guide in a home/building that hasn't changed much since Wright finished it)
... and to echo popular sentiment ... IM Pei needs some props too ...
my $0.03 (the extra penny is free of charge)
