Actually, per the OED (one of the gold standards of English language usage, no?) entry for nauseous:
orig. U.S. Of a person: affected with nausea; having an unsettled stomach; (fig.) disgusted, affected with distaste or loathing.
For interested parties, that comes after the obsolete usage of the word & before the "literal" meaning. Show up in the mid 20th century.
