I knew someone who had a stroke that briefly disabled their ability to read and speak. If you didn't already know it had happened, you would never guess it from talking to them. Not only is this already an outstanding outcome, but their recovery time was so fast they were discharged from the hospital and speech therapy early. Their neurologist and several members of their care team all credit the fact that they spoke three languages as important for their neural plasticity.
Personally, learning multiple languages has given me more insight into those cultures and regions of the world. I can appreciate and make multi-lingual puns. I don't always trust automatic translations to fully capture the cultural or historical context in language, and an exchange of information in a business context can heavily depend on fairly nuanced shades of meaning.
