Comment Steadystate (Score 1) 294

I am in charge of.a lab of 20 older Dells at a senior center with similar specs. I ended up uninstalling the antivirus since they had steadystate on them. This means whatever the virus does gets undone when the machine restarts, and of course they use user accounts . The seniors haven't complained much, only that the machines take awhile to boot up, and to get around that I have many machines start up automatically at 8am. Yes it's not secure, but it works.

Comment As frivolus as passenger side airbags (Score 1) 652

This is silly, and why I will probably never stop driving my '93 Corolla, there's no passenger's side airbag, no side curtain airbag, no OBD2 sensor, no stability control, none of that crap. You know where Toyota put that money into? A kick-ass engine that is still going after 206k miles. I also had a 2008 Chevy Aveo for a little while with all the modern mandated safety 'features' and the cheap brakes crapped out and the rotors needed to be replaced 3 times, but the passenger airbag was still there! Along with that stupid light on the dash to make sure it doesn't go off if there's a little kid in the seat! Went back to the '93 Corolla immediately after that and haven't looked back.

I'm right now using the Hp/Compaq TC4400 that I bought off of ebay which is the upgrade to the TC1000. It's a great machine and I've heard of people using OSX among other things on it. The tablet piece is great every once an awhile when reading something, or drawing, or having a group looking at the same thing on it. The only downside I see is you need to use the pen, not your finger, for the touchscreen.
