With regards to nanotube Field Effect Transistors, as the gap is bridged, more electrons flow over using that bridge. It is the easiest route, and with enough Voltage, the jump get's easier, yet the gap gets larger.. And so you have a shift, a switch, whatever it is called.. But when we reduce the scale to the size of nanometers, we are getting closer to the disintegration of the walls. From here on in we are playing in the world of the small, yet powerful. One could speculate that this layer of abstraction will mimic the least, the underlying layer. The area where the fundamental properties start to change. Now we are starting to play with things that can hurt us? We will play.
