AFAIK, one of the limitations in graviation wave search by laser interferometry is the noise created by the temperature of the mirrors that are used to create the interferometer. Cooler mirrors give less noise. There it is important that you cool the stuff without mechanical interaction, therefore liquid Helium cooling cannot be applied there, AFAIK. Armin
