Respiratory viruses tend to have reduced IFRs as they mutate and higher propagation rates. Makes sense given the evolutionary pressure. Your argument could have applied to Delta mutating to Omicron... where you would have higher IFRs... so isn't it a net positive that Delta has been crowded out? The only real concern is the effect on the hospitals.... so far data looks good, but hospitalization always trails positive test results, so it's a bit early to really tell.

Not the OP, don't think you're going to get cancer from mRNA vaccines, but you still think that being vaccinated guarantees that you aren't going to be infected with COVID? The data clearly says otherwise.... the vaccine is likely still greatly reducing the risk of hospitalization and death, along with decreasing the time you are infectious, so there's a huge incentive to vaccinate. However it's naive to think you have any guarantee.
